In the town of Nagda in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, the journey of Chandan Singh stands as a powerful testament to what sustained grassroots commitment can achieve. With over 12 years of experience in the disability sector, Chandan has devoted his life to ensuring that children with intellectual disabilities and their families receive not just services, but dignity, awareness, and long-term support. His work is driven by a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by rural and underserved communities, where access to information is often as scarce as the services themselves.
A Proactive Approach to Community Enabling
Chandan’s mission found greater structure and momentum through VOSAP’s Project HITARTH, where he serves as a dedicated HITARTH Sahayak. Unlike traditional administrative roles, Chandan’s work is field-based and deeply personal. He doesn’t wait for families to find him; he goes to them. His proactive efforts include:
- Identification & Outreach: Conducting surveys, home visits, and community meetings to identify children with Intellectual Disabilities.
- Foundational Support: Assisting families in obtaining essential Disability Certificates and UDID cards.
- Insurance Navigation: Managing the end-to-end process of the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme, from initial registration to systematic claim submissions.
- Healthcare Advocacy: Guiding families on therapy access and navigating complex healthcare pathways.
Turning Complexity into Clarity
For many rural families, the paperwork required for government benefits can feel like an insurmountable wall. Chandan transforms this complex system into an accessible pathway. His consistent follow-ups and hands-on guidance have turned confusion into clarity for hundreds of families in Ujjain. Today, families approach Chandan not only for documentation but as a trusted advisor for their children’s overall well-being and government entitlements
Creating Real Impact on the Ground
Chandan Singh’s commitment to the “last mile” of service delivery has led to significant and measurable change in his region:
- Supported 1,000+ families through dedicated grassroots action
- Successfully processed 95+ Niramaya claims in 2025–26
- Facilitated ₹7,00,000+ claim settlements in 2025-26
- Building 12+ years of specialized experience in the disability sector
Behind these figures are over a thousand families who no longer feel forgotten by the system.
A Journey of Empowerment and Compassion
Chandan Singh’s journey goes beyond processing claims; it is about empowerment. He has bridged the gap between government schemes and the people who need them most, ensuring that the benefits meant for children with disabilities actually reach their doorsteps. From Nagda to the surrounding rural pockets of Ujjain, his work shows how a single individual’s awareness and compassion can strengthen an entire community.
“His work reflects a simple but powerful truth: When you bridge the gap between policy and people, you don’t just provide a service—you provide a future.”
