Vishal Waghela, a bright 15-year-old boy from a modest family in Gujarat, had his life suddenly upended by a tragic accident. While riding his bicycle one day, a sharp stone hit his eye, causing severe trauma. The impact tore his cornea, damaged his retina, and completely affected the lens of his eye. The pain was excruciating—Vishal could barely open his eyes, and his vision was critically impaired.
The injury required immediate and complex eye surgery to repair the damage to the cornea and retina and implant a new lens. However, the cost of the procedure—₹50,000 to ₹60,000—was far beyond the reach of Vishal’s family, who struggled to make ends meet. The possibility of lifelong vision loss loomed over the young boy’s future.
Just when all hope seemed lost, VOSAP stepped in through its “Save Sight” project, which aims to provide timely medical support to prevent avoidable blindness. With urgent financial assistance and logistical support from VOSAP, Vishal was admitted to Porecha Eye Hospital, where a skilled team of doctors performed the complex surgery.
Thanks to this critical intervention, Vishal’s cornea was successfully repaired Dr Sumit (designation), who has operated 1000s of surgeries Vishal’s eyes implanted new cornea and vision restored, and a new lens was implanted. The damage to his retina was managed, and his vision was restored, offering him not just the ability to see again—but the chance to live a full, independent life. From being on the brink of permanent vision loss, Vishal was given a second chance at life.
