VOSAP team visited the BM Institute of Mental Health in Ahmedabad, a well-established center providing holistic care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The campus was clean, thoughtfully designed, and highly accessible, equipped with wheelchairs and elevators to support mobility. Therapy labs were located at ground level for easy access, while specialized sessions like speech and special education were a few steps above, reflecting a practical and inclusive design. Corridors displayed creative items and functional furniture made by the students themselves, emphasizing the institute’s focus on dignity and vocational empowerment.

In the year 2024–25, approximately 17,000 therapy sessions were conducted. The institute’s OPD serves over 300 patients daily, supported by a wide range of therapies –
psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, music therapy, and sensory therapy. Therapy labs are well-equipped with devices like
TENS, SWD, laser therapy, paraffin wax bath, and mobility aids including CP walkers and trampolines.  The institute offers special education, day care, and skill-building workshops. Vocational training activities include sewing, embroidery, painting, candle making, and basic furniture work. The computer lab hosts over 50 systems to support structured rehabilitation and digital literacy programs.

As part of VOSAP’s mission to enable persons with disabilities through partnerships, meaningful discussions were held with Dr. Rajul Mallik and Mr. P.K. Lehri (IAS). Dr. Mallik expressed willingness to collaborate on enrolling OPD patients in the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme with the help of a dedicated social worker supported by VOSAP. Further, needs related to assistive devices were assessed. A follow-up meeting is planned with the principal and faculty of Sharda School (within the institute) after June 9 to explore opportunities for enhancing computer literacy and integrating educational apps.

This visit reinforced VOSAP’s commitment to supporting inclusive institutions and fostering long-term impact through technology, financial assistance, and strategic collaboration.
