Washington D.C. Metro Area’s First VOSAP Fundraiser Sets a Powerful Precedent
Fairfax, Virginia | March 2026 — In a landmark evening for disability inclusion, VOSAP (Voice of Specially Abled People) hosted its first-ever fundraiser in the Washington D.C. metro area, raising an extraordinary $214,000 to support specially abled people (SAPs) across India this year through assistive technology, healthcare access, and community-driven programs.
From the Community, For the Community
The sold-out gala in Fairfax, Virginia drew 160 attendees — 108 new donors, Doctors, professionals, advocates, and student volunteers and VOSAP ambassador Sparsh Shah who entertained the audience with his live inspiring musical performance — united by a single mission: to harness ability and transform lives.
The evening generated $107,000 from 108 first-time VOSAP donors — a powerful sign of the organization’s growing reach and resonance within the Indian American community. That contribution was then matched in full by VOSAP’s Chief Patron Shri Manu bhai and Rika ben, doubling the night’s impact and bringing the total raised to $214,000.
VOSAP Founder Pranav Desai, who has built the organization with a relentless focus on scaling impact through technology and community engagement, spoke to what this milestone represents. “We have been able to create a community with a single shared goal — let’s harness ability, let’s empower people with disabilities,” he said.
What began as an effort to support a few hundred individuals has grown into a movement reaching tens of thousands annually. “We want to be the transformation catalyst,” Desai said. “Everything we do is designed to create a far-reaching ripple — because when one person with a disability gets the right tool or the right healthcare, an entire family’s future changes.”
“108 new donors stepped up for the first time — that’s not just fundraising, that’s a community awakening,” he added.
“When people understand that assistive technology can change a child’s entire trajectory — from isolation to education to employment — they want to be part of that change.”
Indian American physician, philanthropist, and VOSAP donor Dr. Vinod Shah captured the evening’s spirit with a powerful reminder of what is truly at stake. “Anytime you give sight, anytime you give mobility — that is nothing more supportive than giving dignity to an individual,” he said.
Technology at the Heart of Transformation
What sets VOSAP apart is not just the assistive technology it champions — it is how technology powers every layer of its operations, enabling a lean, passionate team to deliver impact at a scale that would otherwise require an army.
The event showcased VOSAP’s impact across its various initiatives, including its Assistive Technology Program that supports cutting-edge solutions for the Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, and those with Mobility disabilities — as well as Project HITARTH, which is redefining healthcare access for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities across India.
An Incredible Team Behind the Numbers
This evening was not built in a night — it was built over a decade. Special recognition goes to Killol and Vaibhavi, whose 10 years of unwavering dedication laid the foundation for everything VOSAP has achieved, and to Kartikey, who over the last five years has been an outstanding Ignite leader, inspiring youth volunteers to discover purpose through service.
The sold-out event was a testament to the dedication of a core team of 10 devoted volunteers who organized, outreached, and filled every seat in advance — and to the broader VOSAP volunteer network that shows up tirelessly, year after year. Youth volunteers played a central role throughout — from event execution to beneficiary outreach — embodying VOSAP’s belief that purpose-driven action starts young.
This inaugural D.C. metro gala marks the beginning of a deeper relationship between VOSAP and the vibrant Indian American community across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. With $214,000 raised and momentum firmly behind them, VOSAP is calling on more donors, volunteers, and advocates to join the movement.
