The Right of Persons with Disabilities Act defines ‘Inclusive Education’ as a system of education wherein students with and without disabilities learn together and the system of teaching and learning is suitably adapted to meet the learning needs of different types of students with disabilities.

In order to ensure the implementation of rules as laid down, Supreme Court of India with A Bench of Justices D.Y.Chandrachud and A.S.Bopanna on Monday directed the University Grants Commission to finalize guidelines for inspection of Educational Institutions To Ensure Implementation of RPWD Act.

Supreme Court directed

  • UGC to constitute an Expert committee to undertake detailed study for making provisions in respect of accessibility, their implementation, funding and monitoring within a time limit.
  • In-house body to be constituted in each educational institution to take care of daily needs of  SAPs and implementation of the schemes addressed by Expert committee.
  • This Committee would include person from Central and State Advisory Boards, Chief Commissioners of State Commissioners appointed under Disabilities Act
