Voice of SAP is working towards empowerment of Specially Abled People by enabling them with Assistive Devices and Surgical Interventions. So far VOSAP has changed life of 15,000+ Specially Abled People.

 

Surgical intervention helps Visually Impaired people or people with partial impairment gain vision whenever possible. It is interesting to note that A single eye donation can have an impact in the lives of 4-5 people by giving them the ‘Gift of Vision’. 

Voice of SAP enables 750+ people (6000+ so far) every quarter with surgical interventions (Cataract Surgeries) at Porecha Eye Hospital, BPA, Bareja at Free Cost to Patients with success rate of 90-99% improvement in patients. 

 

This program is executed by VOSAP partner Blind People’s Association,India. The program helps people living in rural, remote and economically backward areas of villages in Gujarat.

 

 

The process involves multiple approaches of identification of beneficiaries and is carried out in different models.

  • Identification of Beneficiaries is done through VOSAP Partner BPA’s Vision Centres, through Eye Camps and Direct Visit to the Hospital. These Vision Centres and Eye Camps have highly trained professionals and staff that do preliminary examination of Patients.

Vision Centres :

Blind People Association has 13 Vision Centres  in different locations. Through this Vision Centres, and beneficiaries are identified and examined. Vision Centres are basically screening centres for patients which identifies the need of intervention in patients, whether they require corneal implant, retinal implant or they have cataracts.

Vision Centres hold complete responsibility for gathering beneficiaries on the day of surgery, providing post surgery care, medicines, spectacles etc as necessary. Every week a follow up visit to these visions centres is done by assigned Opthalmologists.

Eye Camps:

Eye camps are held in different locations 60-70kms away from city. Prior to Eye Camp day, Announcements are done through fliers and groups to create awareness, On the day of Eye Camp, beneficiaries are examined and are made aware of the eye surgery procedure.

  • Eye Surgery: The Surgical Intervention carried out at Porecha Eye Hospital, Bareja is done Free of Cost to Patients including transportation, food and accomodation, Medicine and Kit, and Surgery. Counseling is also provided to all the patients before and after surgery.
  1. Transportation :  Patients are provided with pickup and drop facilities from Vision Centres/Eye Camps to Porecha Eye Hospital before and after surgery.
  2. Food and Accomodation: Patients are provided with free Food (Breakfast-Lunch-Snacks-Dinner) and Accomodation facilities for 2 days at Porecha Eye Hospital. Hospital also has a canteen that provides food to visitors(with Patients) at very low cost.
  3. Medicines, Case Filing and Medical Kit: On the Day of Surgery, Patients are provided with free medicines (pre and post Surgery). The case filing of each patient is done and the undergo examination process. Kit is provided to patients that include their report, file, medicines and spectacles. Each file also carries a VOSAP Flier so patients know the sponsors of their Surgery.

 

 

  • Post Surgery Support and Review:

Post Surgery Support is provided to Beneficiaries and they are asked for the reviews of improvement in their vision by Vision Centres they fall under. If any patient undergoes any side effect, issue post surgery, immediate consultation and necessary care is provided, if need arises, they are sent back to Porecha Eye Hospital for examination.

 

The process of Surgical Interventions is taken care of end to end by highly trained professionals. There are 85+ professionals involved in carrying out this program at Porecha Eye Hospital involving Ground Staff, Ophthalmic assistant, Ophthalmic technician, Ophthalmologists, Doctors, Management staff and Field staff.
