We are proud to announce the official launch of VOSAP’s Assistive Technology (AT) Subsidy Program in the United States — unveiled on March 11, 2026 at CSUN 2026, the world’s largest assistive technology conference.

This launch marks a defining milestone: having already transformed tens of thousands of lives in India through device subsidies and assistive technology access, VOSAP is now bringing the same commitment to the United States, in partnership with Orbit Research — a globally recognized leader in braille and audio assistive devices.

Why This Program Exists

The cost of assistive technology remains one of the most persistent and under-addressed barriers in the disability community. A quality braille display or dedicated audio player can cost hundreds of dollars — placing it out of reach for many who need it most, especially when insurance, vocational rehabilitation, or other funding channels fall short.

The VOSAP AT Subsidy Program is built specifically to close this gap.

Three Devices. Real Impact.

At launch, the program offers three flagship devices from Orbit Research’s portfolio, selected for their proven impact on independence, education, and daily communication.

Orbit Reader 20

A 20-cell refreshable braille display that connects to smartphones, tablets, and PCs via Bluetooth or USB. With an SD card reader and support for both bookshelf reading and note-taking modes, it is an ideal tool for students, professionals, and everyday readers who are blind or have low vision.

Orbit Player

A compact, accessible audio player designed for simplicity and reliability. It supports DAISY, MP3, and text-based audio formats through an intuitive tactile interface, with extended battery life for everyday use. Particularly well-suited for blind, low-vision, and elderly users who need a dedicated, easy-to-use device for audiobooks, podcasts, and daily media.

Orbit Reader 20 Plus

Builds on the Reader 20 with added Wi-Fi connectivity, a full braille keyboard, and enhanced standalone operation. Designed for users — including DeafBlind individuals — who require a more powerful tool for reading, communication, and productivity.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to individuals in the United States who meet the following criteria:

  • Visually Impaired or DeafBlind
  • Annual family income below $75,000
  • Cost has been a genuine barrier to accessing assistive technology
  • Have not been able to obtain needed devices through insurance, vocational rehabilitation, or other existing funding channels

Applicants must require braille or audio-based tools for daily living, education, or employment, and demonstrate that a subsidized device would meaningfully improve their independence or quality of life. Every application is reviewed individually by VOSAP’s team to ensure devices reach those with the greatest need.

How to Apply

Applying is straightforward:

  1. Visit www.voiceofsap.org/applydevices and Select USA
  2. Complete the online application with your personal information and assistive technology needs
  3. VOSAP’s team will review your submission, confirm eligibility, and notify you of the decision
  4. If approved, Orbit Research will handle payments, delivery, training, and ongoing support

Launched at CSUN 2026

CSUN is the world’s premier annual gathering of the assistive technology community — bringing together AT professionals, educators, disability advocates, researchers, and end users from across the US and around the world. Launching the program there signals a strong commitment from both VOSAP and Orbit Research to embed this initiative within the broader US assistive technology ecosystem.

Attendees at CSUN 2026 had the opportunity to meet VOSAP and Orbit Research representatives directly, explore the subsidized devices, and learn about the application process firsthand.

“Orbit Research offers great solutions and products to blind and deaf blind people so we are excited for the subsidy program launched today at CSUN 2026. Every individual who has been unable to access assistive technology due to cost deserves a solution.”

— Pranav Desai, Founder, VOSAP
