Featured Artist of VFH2020 : Lucas Kinceler

32-year-old artist Lucas Kinceler, from Santa Catarina, Brazil, was born into a family of professional artists. The sight of his mother making ceramic pieces regularly inspired him to become an artist at an early age and rooted a sense of appreciating art. Since then, all he had ever been interested in was drawing and painting.

At the age of 8, while his parents were pursuing their Ph.D. his four years long stay in Spain turned out to be positive explorative experience for him. Having done his studies from a multicultural school, he came in touch with cohorts from different social foundations and he was hugely intrigued by various nationalities, societies, and customs. He recalls a student with down syndrome in his school. His interactions with this student moved him and he comprehended the significance of inclusion at a very young age.

He strongly believes expressions though art. And his passion found a way when he found out about VOSAP ‘Art from Heart’ contest through a fellow artist, Giovana Zimermann. Having decided to participate at VOSAP Art from Heart, he needed to create an art based on the message of “we are one.” His Late father consistently encouraged him to draw by being motivated from history for his artworks, thus during his research he ran over a photo of a man in wheelchair, from Sao Paulo, ‘breaking the streets that were inaccessible with a hammer’. This picture and the Mayan reasoning of “we are one” inspired Lucas in creating an amazing workmanship piece for this contest.

Lucas participated in Art from Heart Competition as Country representative of Brazil and also actively participated during ‘VOSAP AFH Artist Connect Call’ in February 2021 where he shared his experience and mentioned how he is motivated by inclusivity of SAPs and how the VOSAP Art platform is creating a difference.

Currently Lucas is actively involved in various collective projects, one of which was first started by Lucas with his father in 2008, and now he continues to work on it – the Cultural Geodesic Art collective. Lucas is also involved in multimedia platforms which he uses to express his thoughts. He uses his art to sensitize the people and raise awareness about social issues. Painting is one of the mediums used by him, he is also engaged in variety of music projects, photography, and ceramics art works. He uses these media platform depending on the demand of the artwork and what will portray his expression best. Lucas is a part of VOSAP community now and he looks forward to opportunities of participating in VOSAP’s future initiatives. Appreciating the VOSAP art gallery he feels it is a wonderful step forward to spread awareness in a unique way. It was a delight having a conversation about art and social issues with Lucas, Team VOSAP wishes him all the very best for his future endeavours. Keep inspiring people through your art!
