Kheda, Gujarat — In a remarkable example of grassroots impact, Saksham worker Nitin Jani has successfully implemented The National Trust’s Niramaya Health Insurance Policy across Kheda district. Within the very first year of enrollment, 437 persons with disabilities were provided coverage, ensuring access to essential healthcare and financial protection.

To make this possible, Jani assembled a team of four dedicated workers and designed a plan to reach all 10 talukas and 540 villages of Kheda. The initiative followed a structured and collaborative approach:

  1. District-level coordination: Engagement with the District Social Security Officer enabled outreach to even the remotest villages.

  2. Local health networks: Support from Asha workers under the district health department helped connect families with the policy.

  3. NGO partnerships: Collaboration with institutions working in the disability sector expanded the reach to new beneficiaries.

  4. Special educators: Their involvement was crucial in identifying children and individuals who required support.

  5. Personal outreach: Field workers conducted door-to-door visits, counseling families and ensuring enrollment.

Speaking about the achievement, Nitin Jani said:

“Our mission was to reach every eligible beneficiary in Kheda, no matter how remote their village. With teamwork and community partnerships, we have been able to provide dignity and security to persons with disabilities through the Niramaya scheme.”

The initiative has become a model of district-level execution that can be replicated across India, highlighting how community engagement, government collaboration, and local partnerships can make welfare schemes truly accessible to those who need them most.
